My Life in 30 Minutes

So it goes, that crazy is the forecast all week.

*On Monday I found myself taking a vow against impulse shopping and retail therapy. What led me to such drastic measures? I moved out.

As this entry is supposed to take me only thirty minutes, I'll save the details for another time.

*I got a call yesterday from my host company, asking me to drop by their office tomorrow for an orientation. Work officially starts on June 5th. Short-term goal: avoid corporate suicide.

Pray I don't seriously mess up or horrendously embarrass myself and henceforth die of shame.

*Blog makeover! I call this one Chocolate, thanks to Mabelle's keen observation. This one's for you biatch.

*Currently reading: Nick Hornby's A Long Way Down, about the chance encounter of four individuals with almost nothing in common except for a shared purpose on New Year's Eve. Here's a sneak peek:

"Oscar Wilde once said that one's real life is often the life one does not lead. Well, f***ing right on, Oscar. My real life was full of headlining shows at Wembley and Madison Square Garden and Platinum records, and Grammies, and that wasn't the life I was leading, which is maybe why I felt like I could throw it away. The life I was leading didn't let me be, I don't know...be who I thought I was. It didn't even let me stand up properly."

It's a bit depressing, but it's by Nick Hornby so it's still quite funny. Not laugh out loud funny, exactly. See, reading a Hornby is like listening to a semi-interesting aquaintance who's casually chatting about random stuff you only half care about. But in the midst of all the babble, he surprises you by saying something rather profound, which strikes you really hard, and all at once you're taken aback. The incident then leaves you in awe and with newfound respect for the guy.

Before this becomes a haphazardly written book review, on to my next point...

*Currently listening to: this slower, sweeter version of I Melt With You by Nouvelle Vague. I love this song, whatever form it's taken - a testament to my being a kid of the 80's (sort of).

Sheridan's One in a Million is also under heavy rotation - real sweet this one, especially the part that goes "I'm just a little bit scared, just a little bit weak in the knees, just a little lucky that I got you here with me".

The summer playlists will have to wait another year as some rainy day music takes over my iTunes for now.

*Quotable quote:

"There's an upside to free falling: it's the chance you give your friends to catch you."
- Grey's Anatomy

*Finally, my laptop's gotten a new lease on life. The LCD's completely hopeless, which means I have to use an external monitor, and the only one I could find at home is the one from my crummy old desktop. Luckily it still works, so now it looks like my laptop's on life support. It still breaks my heart a bit.

Thirty minutes over - 'till next time.
